We believe that some current management models primarily focus on the “mechanical operation” of organizations and their people, overlooking the complexities involved in “growing and operating business”. We observe that this oversimplification does not effectively address the challenges that CEOs and their teams currently face.
To broaden our perspective, we are launching Insights, a space for reflection where we will review various management paradigms from the last century, offer our interpretation of the management phenomenon, and introduce a set of “human” skills we consider essential for leading organizations in the era of artificial intelligence.
🧐 What is the purpose of Insights?
To provide a deep understanding of management.
Our goal is to help today's organizational leaders gain a more comprehensive understanding of what it means to “create and manage organizations”—the phenomena traditionally referred to as management.
We believe that by achieving a more robust understanding, we can build organizations that are profitable and more humane. Organizations that, in addition to achieving their financial outcomes, satisfy their customers, generate meaning for their employees, and offer learning opportunities. Organizations where the process is as important as the results.
📚 What challenge will we address?
People have organized to produce results long before formal theories of management were established. However, since the early 20th century, paradigms have explicitly addressed the need to coordinate collective efforts to achieve results.
We do not believe there is a 'true and universal' management theory that works for all organizations or all industries. Indeed, the history of management shows that as contexts have changed, so have the models.
Our challenge will be to construct an interpretation of management that helps leaders navigate the complexities of building and managing their organizations more effectively.
🧭 How will we approach this challenge?
Our initial entries will be dedicated to clarifying what have been and still are the major management paradigms. We will explain in what historical and philosophical context in which they emerged, their central ideas, how they endure today, and their major contributions as well as their blind spots.
In a subsequent section, we will gather the most useful aspects of each paradigm and propose our interpretation of management. We will account for the tradition we are situated in, both to present its fundamental conceptions and to point out where we diverge or complement it by developing new aspects.
Furthermore, we will emphasize the various phenomena that, in our view, play a crucial role in management. We will dedicate publications to topics such as managing power, articulating strategies, designing contexts, etc.
Finally, we will dedicate a section to sharing practices and tools that enable the development of skills in the management elements previously discussed.
✉️ What is our invitation?
Our thesis is that, currently, many leaders are interested in creating masterpiece organizations that transcend the goal of achieving high profitability. If this challenge resonates with you, we invite you to reflect with us and engage with our content, aiming to uncover Insights that can significantly impact your role and your organization.
